Mindful Mailart Sundays - I wanna see your Peacock!

Listening to Katy Perry got me inspired. Peacock stamps by #carmensveranda #rubberstamping #mailart #mailartists #iwannaseeyourpeacock
While working on my mail art I usually have some fun music on. I cannot deny that Katy Perry is definitely one of my Guilty pleasures :) For a Peacock MailArt swap on swapbot I just felt this song by Katy Perry would be the best backdrop for it.

Working on some #mailart backgrounds #lostcoastdesigns #mailartists #timholtz #embossing #wow #pressepapier #colorful #colorcoordination
The backgrounds are made with Tim Holtz distress stains and glimmer mist moss green chalk spray  on vintage typewritten paper. Peacock and loopy calligraphy stamps were stamped with dazzle versamark and embossed with a mix of clear and violet inter-medium embossing powder.

Peacock mail art

Added some accents on the edges with themed paper and gold washi tape. I stamped the peacock stamp on a separate piece of gold textured paper, cut out and glued on black paper to give it a pop-out- effect. As you could see on the top picture, that was my plan. But sadly the glue would not take to the glossy embossed surface and it came loose... So the I just stamped the peacock with dark grey stazon in the section on the left and it gave a neat effect too! Goes to show that mistakes can lead to beautiful creations :)

The peacock and feather background stamp are from Carmen's Veranda.

Color Chart Wheels

Made a pallet of the turquoise/teal inks I have by using the ticket booklet by #letypographe which I got at @misc_store_ams
A little while back in my post on Misc Store Amsterdam I mentioned I had a great idea how to use the Ticket List booklets (the biotop sable 58.07) from Le Typograph. Well, they make an Inkophile's life so much easier as you can make these Color Chart Wheels with them. I started off with my fave color. Guess what that is?

Sample swabbing turquoise inks #inkygoodness #inkswab #inksampler #turquoise #fpgeeks #inks #akkerman #sailor #montblanc #privatereserve #diamine #takemetothebeachwithturquoise
Join in with this hashtag on instagram if it's your fave color too #takemetothebeachwithturquoise

The process:

Little nano alpaca is helping with the sampling #inksampler #inkygoodness #fountainpenink #inkventory #fpgeeks #nanoblock #alpaca #inkswab
Little nano-alpaca is carefully helping me choose the color gradient.

It's swabbing time #inksampler #inkswab #inkygoodness #inkjournal #dipnibs #dippen #turquoise #fpgeeks #takemetothebeachwithturquoise
Then it's swabbing time! Q-tips are used well in this house hold!

This is definitely my fave turquoise ink (still weep that it is discontinued!) #carandache #caribbeansea #ticketlist #letypographe #fountainpenink #dippen #fpgeeks @misc_store_ams #miscstore #miscellaneous
I write down the manufacturer and color of ink underneath each swab. And some 'figure eights' for fun.

The end result:

The turquoise 'ink sample wheel' I made by using #letypographe 's ticket list booket (got at @misc_store_ams) Going to do a whole rainbow color palet wheels of this. The paper is really sturdy and you van use the backsides of the stubs too!
I love how you can fan these out as wheels! The plastic ring is holds the stubs together very well. The paper is really sturdy and you could use the backsides of the ticket stubs as well.

Such a close match to old Caran d'ache Caribbean Sea = Diamine Marine. It is a little bluer than CS. If you want a bit more green hue, Kaweco Paradise Blue would hit that mark. Still all three want me to take a holiday to the Caribbean shore 😉
The use of these Color Chart Wheels is awesome. You can discover which inks matches to each other and with that also find a good replacement for an ink that is discontinued. Like Caran d'Ache Caribbean Sea for instance. Very close match to Diamine Marine.

I have made a yellow/orange one as well and my plan is to make a rainbow out of these chart wheels.

If the rays of the sun won't come to me, I shall make my own! #colorcharted #colorcoordination #inkophile #ticketlist #letypographe #yellow #orange #colorsofthesun #colorcartwheel #sunset #sunrise #fpgeeks #colorcharted_yellow #sunshine

This one will be on display at the Misc Store soon :)

Meanwhile I hope this inspires you to make a few of your own. If you do, I would love to see it :)

MailArt Sunday - Immersed in Twilight and New Blog for LCD/CV events!

In celebration of our new event blog launch, The Lost Coast Portal to Creativity, we are having a New Stamp release event. We as DT will showcase what you can make with these wonderful new stamp images and I would like to share with you this Mixed Media Piece I call Immersed in Twilight.

The cityscape stamp is one of my favorites from the new releases at Lost Coast Designs and this is one is used in this example. It is made on sturdy carson watercolor paper. First I stamped the small doll face, which is also part of the face butterfly set of the new releases, with versamark and embossed it with clear WOW embossing powder. I used it as a moon. Then stamped the cityscape at the bottom at the whole length of the card with versamark and embossed with black embossing powder. I masked the moonface and started to work on the sky. I used a mix of cerulean colored goache and iridescent paint medium to make the blue part and cloud wisps. To get the 'immersion in twilight' feel of the city, I used metallic rub-ons on the cityscape in copper and purple. I mostly used my fingers for this. But you have rub gently as you could risk rubbing off the embossing. I also rubbed bits of purple in between the roofs of the city to mix with the light blue. It gives it a light 'city on fire' look. I took away the mask of the moon and rubbed on a silver metallic rub on the face and contours to give it a 'halo'. To finish it off I applied bits of silver metallic rub on on the sky and embossed it with 'Starlight' embossing powder by Stampendous.

Hope this inspires you to work with paints and rub ons and LCD stamps to make some wonderful art
pieces yourself!

Thriftfinds Thursdays - Waterman Patrician Purple Ink

Waterman's Patrician Purple ink - vintage find of the day! #fountainpen #ink #inkbottle #waterman #purple #sheen #vintage #fpgeeks #irongall

A few things I mostly look for at flea markets or thrift shops are fountain pens and ink. This Gem I found at a local market last summer. This old ink bottle is an vintage Waterman 'patrician purple' ink. I love the look of the bottle and the ink is still usable. It has a nice velvety lilac color.

Bottom of the bottle #waterman #patrician #purple #ink #vintage #fountainpen #inkbottle #fpgeeks #luckyfind #pretty

The bottom of the bottle contains such nice details too. And you can see that the bottle is still quite full with ink! If you want to know more about the vintage ink range of waterman, I recommend you read this post by Toaster Pastry on Fountainpen Network. A very detailed and comprehensive review, worth the read. That tropic green is definitely one I will keep my eye out for!

Shopping Highlight: Misc Store Amsterdam

Not five minutes walk from where I used to live in Amsterdam-West I found this gem of a store; Miscellaneous. Located on de Clerqstraat 130, it's a heaven for for stationery lovers like me. I first visited it in january to get my midori pocket planner refills and whenever I am in the aria I just have to take a peek inside the store as they frequently have new stuff on display.

A visual impression of the store below the cut.

Thriftfinds Thursdays - Minty Typewriter

Since I love to saunter on flea markets and stroll into thrift stores, I thought it would be fun to share some of my thrift finds and fun flea markets and vintage shops with you all. So introducing a new section called 'Thriftfinds Thursdays' as a nod to 'Throwback Thursdays' which is a popular 'thang' in the social media hangouts.

One of my most awesome find a few years ago was this turquoise/mint typewriter which I got at a vintage stall at the Sunday Market in Amsterdam. I already owned two typewriters at that point but couldn't NOT have this one. A Brother Delux complete with instructions and in its original suitcase cover, it is a thing of beauty! After some cleaning and a new lint, it was ready to use.

And yes in the mean time, I have used it a few times, to write letters with for the Typewritten letter swaps at Swap Bot hosted by Betsy Preston for instance. Also to write some text with to use on my mail art. It is not the most quiet typewriter out there, but since it is pretty, I can forgive it that ;)

Do you have a typewriter in your possession? If so, what brand and do you use it often?

The goddess of the Stars ATC - Lost Coast Designs monthly challenge

goddess of the stars
This month at Lost Coaster's Reviewers the challenge is to make an ATC using Lost Coast Designs and/or Carmen's Veranda rubber stamps.
I made this ATC by using the stamp 'profile with stars'. It is one of my favorites of the Art Nouveau range at LCD. It was a pretty challenging one to make and when I started I did not know it would turn out like this. Am very pleased with the end result though!
This is how I made it:
The background is made with distress stain Aqua Lagoon and spun sugar on a light green paper base. I stamped the circle of the stamp with versamark on the background and embossed with stampin' up stardust embossing powder to give it that starry night effect. Another back ground made with distress stains wild honey, fired brick and vintage photo on green paper. Stamped profile with stars on it with Staz-on rustic brown. Used a versa-marker on some elements I wanted to emboss with Top Boss Honey Gold. Then accentuated with a copic too tone marker in brown. The inner circle I removed with a tiny 3D Card scissors. To finish it off I added a bit of black soot rub on pearl at the edges of the ATC.
